Iron Man 2: The Dream Nerd

I heard from my cousins that Iron Man (without the two) was a good movie and it left you wanting for more. Its summer, its useless to reject a movie invitation so I tagged along to watch Iron Man 2. We were so lucky to grab a seat. Its the most populated SM Cinema has been since the last Harry Potter installment.

Iron Man 2 was a movie. I can't tell you if it was good or bad. The only standards it passed was being a movie. I can't even say if the 2 dollars was worth it. Just like any other movie which can't be described by any other word other than 'movie', I'll probably forget about its existence in a few days. If you are not happy about my review, go ahead and watch it yourself. Put a link to your own review in the comments box and let me read it.

Although, I have to note one thing that affected my reaction to the movie. I consider myself a science enthusiast and as I watch this sci-fi/hero movie, I can't help to compare the events and materials to reality. All of the computer technology and high capacity compounds that produce power for at least a century (given they are pocket-sized) were just to impossible for our time. The movie wasn't set in the future, it was set in the present where humans are fond of F1 Mach 1 cars which in the future, will be turtle-ish.

I consider myself a nerd. I love to learn science. Iron Man is like a scientist's/nerd's ego. Anthony Stark is a 40-ish man who knows a lot about Physics and Chemistry almost impossibly though, he is also a celebrity and an alpha man ladies try to grab on to. Isn't it obvious?

When Luck Loves You

I just bought a double cover back issue of Myx Mag Phils. I was so lucky, given I bought a magazine feauturing 3 of my favorite artists. Pupil, Sandwich and Lady Gaga (in no particular order). Judging by the facts, I could have won a lottery that day.

To top it all up, I only had to pay 30 Pesos for the package.

Hopeless Wish

From the title, you can sense that this is a very serious article. Its not that serious and I can still smile while writing this but I try my best to make this very sincere. Maybe someone out there with not only a big heart but also a big wallet or checkbook will care to make a 16-year old, thriving writer happy. Thoughts of whoring myself rush into my mind. Oh shit.

I gathered up all my courage. I looked into the screen of my 12.1 inch laptop. I was running Safari, concentrating on gathering up the courage to visit one of the most magical, almost incredible online store/website ever, the Apple Store PH for Students with discounted prices.

When enough courage was collected, I typed in the URL and pressed enter. Waited for my Window Vista laptop to work with the data. After a few minutes, behold a Page Load Error. Ooops, a typo. Its a .cim instead of .com. A giggle bursted through my lips. I slapped myself trying to remember this is serious. I corrected my spelling and accessed the site.

There it laid, upon a soft background of white. The most beautiful thing I ever saw in my whole life since the mirror. A MacBook. Its not Pro, its just a MacBook. Dashing with a pearly white finish, no edges only curves. Very neat and judging from the pictures of the interface, it was made for me. I refreshed my courage and read the price tag. A whooping 49,990 Pesos.

Ah, come on Apple. I thought this was a student friendly store? Where can a high school student like me dig up that much money? Robbing a bank came across my mind but the guilt will kill me so its impossible for me to get a MacBook at that price tag. I wondered what if I didn't eat lunch for a school year, walked instead of riding jeepneys, even using both sides of the tissue paper. I would do everything for this expensive sheet of pearl and technology. Again, I have to wake up into reality. I will never own a MacBook.

If lotteries were easy to win, I could own a MacBook. But lotteries are never easy to win so I'm not getting a MacBook. If only this, if only that. What if I didn't visit the Apple Store in the first place? Steve Jobs. Huh.

Its about 1 AM and I'm now researching ways to plan what you are going to dream. Just maybe I can be watching YouTube or editing photos and videos on my Mac while asleep.

Colorful Politics

I am in favor of Noynoy so its unstoppable that I will be bias.

I just saw in the evening news that a document signed by a priest says Noynoy is a cuckoo. I'm using cuckoo as replacement for melancholia or severe depression.

  1. First things first, since when did the bible teach priests to identify depressed, mentally unhealthy people?
  2. Second, the document was handed over to a disciple of Manny Villar by some 'anonymous body'.
  3. Third, a press conference was immediately called although the verification of the document wasn't carried out.
  4. Fourth, further private investigation of a TV show proves the document was a hundred percent false.

My friends, I have just shared to you the four steps involved in telling everybody your desperate and you are a patron of black propaganda. Who wants a back-stabbing leader? I am deafened by a resounding "NO ONE". The Philippines is a poor country, we cannot afford the luxury of false documents during election season.

It took me about 15 minutes to create this photo so enjoy it. Explanation of the photo above:

The winners of this election, as I have observed in the past few elections, will be determined before May 10 by their level of fame. I bet a carabao Lady Gaga will win a Filipino Election. So now, rivals set their minds on  finding ways to conjure negative fame against their opponents. As you can see, Villar the cat, is 'horning' Noynoy to make him look uglier but unfortunately it does the opposite. The dog actually becomes cuter with the peace sign resting on its head. Villar keeps shooting black propaganda which strengthens and collects supporters. Join me in saying, 'karma'.

Agua Bendita Versus YouTube

Since Santino hit the small screen, ABS-CBN observed the extreme public hospitality to Catholic driven shows that stars children. Children who are divine and that possess extreme abilities that apparently only God can provide. When the Santino show ended (all good children hit the less adorable adulthood), Agua joined the scene.

Agua is a girl, later she becomes a teen, whose molecules are of holy water. She is glowing blue all the time which of course, alienates her. Outcast blue girl. It wasn't a good show because it was an obvious failed attempt to recreate the blockbuster that was Santino. A few days ago I saw this on Youtube. I print screened it to share.

Could it be? Agua is actually a rip-off of Avatar and not Santino. Please enlighten me!

New Music Album

Shown in this video is the album cover, just in case you can't read. Click the sleeping rectangle to hear the first song in the album.

I just bought Ely Buendia's Wanted: Bedspacer album. Its an original copy because the thought of downloading a knock-off, subpar album from an Eraserheads member is just awful.

The album has 10 songs. I never heard of their lyrics before so I'm 90% sure they are new songs. I kind of see techno in it, a dash of indie and a sparkle of true music, a new solo artist named Ely. Its music that wasn't made for the audience but was made for the urge of making it.

This is supposed to be a review of the album but its hard criticizing an album which happened to be my dream, a techno, indie Ely. My suggestion is you buy it and be happy with me.

If you live in Iloilo, you can buy the album at the second floor, upper ground floor whatever of the mall. Some people who are still raising funds tend to hide this album behind April Boy's music. Be sure to dig well!

REVENGE! Hallelujah

(If you are locked into religion, using revenge and hallelujah in the same phrase might offend you. Get out of here if it does.)

I expect a magnitude to agree with me that some store people are extremely annoying when they tail you around. They make you feel like a disabled, criminal celebrity because they think you need help in your every movement and you require watching over, in case you want to take something without visiting the cashier. I believe they might have encountered a lot of critics when it comes to what they do with their customers/store visitors but they don't seem to care. Do they think they are accomplishing something following people around?

Story:

A nice lady was beside me, browsing books in a big store. She was sophisticated, given she wears high fashion clothing and she is browsing the lifestyle section. A saleslady comes up to her and starts following her around. I followed the saleslady too because I knew there was some drama about to fire up. See the revenge? I'm following the saleslady too, successfully making them feel what they make me feel. But the story doesn't end there, fortunately.

After a few minutes, the nice lady was obviously so pissed off with her new human tail and she asked the saleslady for a French book. I was pretty sure she knew it wouldn't be available. After the saleslady's starstruck no, she said a pleasant 'thank you'. Unfortunately, the saleslady seemed happy about following her. After another few minutes, the nice lady was on the brink and finally, she exploded with a thunderous, "Why don't you go away? Can you like pick up a broom and sweep the floor instead of following me?". The lane we were in was silenced. The nice lady continued, "Here carry my bag and lets pretend I own you. There you will be working like a real lady."

I walked out of the store, feeling holy and touched.

Finally, something to do!

For a few weeks since the start of summer, my daily routine was suicide. Sleep, breakfast, sleep, TV, sleep, lunch, sleep, TV, sleep, dinner, Facebook until near morning. I knew after several months I could die of heart failure so I looked for something to do. Summer should not be paired with lack of activity.

I received a text message from my classmate that a tutorial center here in Iloilo will be holding review classes for college entrance exams. I'm an incoming high school senior and it was music to my ears. I was even happier that it was slightly far away from my school. Now I have to walk everyday and while walking, I can take photos of Iloilo. That is why I started this other photoblog. Check it out to see my photography!

Happiness is just inside of me that I finally found away to spend the summer without choking my arteries with fats!

CATS: Now and Forever

I am a giant fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber, the father or co-parent of Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat and of course, the classic Cats, among other masterpieces (like Jesus Christ Superstar:-). After I heard that the producers of this broadway hit will be putting up a limited run performance headed by Lea Salonga as Grizabella in CCP, I craved for Google.

Here is the first song of the musical featuring the DVD cast.

I did a little research and found information you will need if you want to watch the musical.

Suicide and Air Conditioners

For today, I had completely nothing to do. With temperature running up to 34 degrees Celsius, I get an asthma attack just sitting down.

Scared of anything medical, the air conditioner is working hard. It has been pumping cool air into my room for almost a day already and I'm scared it will blow up soon. I barely use the air conditioner because I don't like fake air but desperate times need extreme solutions. (fake air=treated, to-be-inhaled air)

Having this dilemma, I developed a theory about our hopeless earth. There are billions of people out there who doesn't care about global warming. Because of the heating of the earth, more and more air conditioners are devouring electricity every minute, increasing power generation green house gasses. The odds of extreme global warming is raising itself. A weird way our world works.

I'm just pretty excited for this. I think it means I will be guiltless using electricity again.

I Went to Church !?!?!

For the first time in a long time, I went to church. My mother is a die-hard fan of religion so every time she is around, we need to go to church. Just to be clear, I am not against the church, I just don't go to church once every week.

The golden light emitted by the sun
during near sundown

For this week's Sunday, my mother decided we go to church late afternoon because the temperature is extremely hot. Walk around the city without protection and you will return home a big block of charcoal. The sun is just so extreme. So we waited for the cooler afternoon before flying off to churchland.

The city's church named Jaro Cathedral, was our church of the week. The church, although still under renovation, looks very beautiful and glamorous. Its like a mix of the antique and modern architecture. All these courtesy of the donations handed over to the church. Its amazing how much people are willing to give for religion, I hope they give the same attention to our nation. If we treat the state of being a Filipino as a religion, the Philippines will be a gold mine.

No giant cathedral will be complete without LCD
television sets to show lyrics and video feeds of
the proceeding mass. :-) Classy, eh?

This is only about 1/16 of the church.

After church, where I had to get squeezed sit between two strangers, I suggested we eat at Carlo's. Carlo's, according to the stories of my friends, is a fine restaurant.

If you have heard from the news, Carlo's was bombed about two weeks ago. The picture below shows the exact point where the hand grenade landed(you can actually see the dent on the concrete lot caused by the explosion):

Awkward Staring Chase

So you want a staring contest?

Etiquette tells us that it is necessary to look into a person's eye when your talking to them. I believe that but I think many will agree if sometimes, looking into a person's eyeball is very awkward.

When I talk to my friends and stuff, looking in the eye is easy, especially if you have concentrated emotions like anger or joy. You talk looking into their eyes while enjoying yourself but if your talking with someone and you don't like the topic. If your bored and uninterested, it becomes very awkward to even look at them.

Then afterwards you start a staring chasing game. You look away, then you glance. He/she catches you so you have to look at her again. After sometime, it gets really awkward again and you look away. The same thing happens all over again. Only stopping with the conversation.

I have to share this on my blog to make sure I'm not alone.

PS: Guys, I have a Feedburner there at the sidebar (its the one with a number in it) where you can subscribe to get updates from me, so please subscribe. :-)

Journal: SM City Iloilo's Free Air Conditioning

My mother is lying down on the bed, obviously uncomfortable while I check my photos on Facebook. Suddenly a voice behind me whispered, "Let's got to SM. Its really hot in here and if we use the aircon, our electricity bill will be taller than Everest". I froze and I tried to look behind me, wondering who this phenomenal economist is. Its my mother, gripping the remote and looking very enthusiastic.

I took a bath as fast as I can, preparing myself for exposure to thousands of other malling people. If life is a stage, the mall is YouTube. Thousands can see you there so its only proper to try prepare yourself for such limelight.

We passed through the welcome arch of SM and parked at the nearest lot. We entered the mall, reclined at Figaro (a cafe) with my mother's friend. It felt like home if you have thousands of housemates. It was noisy but entertaining noisy, not annoying noisy.

SM Mall, Lower Ground Floor

So we sat there until lunchtime. Another friend of my mother arrived and we decided we chew on some ribs from Kenny Roger's so we did chew on ribs for another hour. My mother and her friends had to go to the BINGO and as the only one in the group below the "BINGO age bracket", I had no say. BINGO's don't hurt me. I'm still a minor but when I'm not wearing a uniform, I'm good as a 21 year old so nobody really throws me out of the BINGO hall. BINGO amazes me. I never thought it was more than a farm dog. Looking at the massive amount of people enjoying the random calling of numbers was keeping me curious. I do not play, for the math's sake so I just watch those who play.

The Grocery Area, SM Iloilo

After sometime, I got tired of watching people do BINGO. I got out of the hall and investigated the mall. Most people go to the mall for the shops, I go to the mall for the mall itself. Its a giant collection of merchandise no one will be able to appreciate in a single day. Its also action everywhere. On another corner, a man is buying an expensive watch for his aging wrists and on the other corner, a baby is throwing up. Its random and fun. Just like BINGO, but the numbers are the people.
HUMAN, the store where I bought
my new bag from. Pretty cool store.

After a few minutes of walking around the mall, I saw this small bag that I liked very much. I have a Girbaud leather bag which is too big to carry around for casual strolls. My leather bag was made for schooling where you need to carry numerous books and I needed this smaller bag. It was a cheap bag running under 7 Dollars and it was beautiful and it looks like it can last for more than a year. So I bought it but now, I'm still figuring out what if I bought the t-shirt which retails at the same price.

The mall is a fun place. Its like a giant TV with a lot of characters, most of which you will never understand. I hope malls will never have admission tickets in the future.

Iloilo, soon to be on green power

Iloilo will be soon friendly to earth lovers! A British firm, Global Green Power PLC Corp. (GGPPC), just signed papers to start the construction of Green Power Panay Philippines Inc. along with a Nueva Ecija subsidiary.

The Green Power Panay Philippines Inc. will be a power plant generating about 17.5 Megawatts using biomass, earth-friendly technology. Agricultural wastes such as rice husks, sugar cane residue and rice straws will be loaded to the future plant  and voila, out comes electricity! The power plants will be great news to mother earth as it complies to nature-friendly standards. The plants will be constructed at Mina, Iloilo. Excited?

I Need A Vacation

I am a student of a school that never sleeps. I work my gluteus maximus off to pass during school days and now a brief, two-month break from schooling just dawned, I guess I need break.

For this summer, we were told to work on our research, due January 2011 to ensure we wouldn't be rushing before the graduation. You might say our teachers are paranoid for letting as work very ahead of time but you don't know research the way they do. They aren't research advisers for no reason. My teachers allowed me to take a two-week break to go on vacation. I was pretty happy about it but I have a problem with my parents. They do not want a vacation.

I love traveling and submitting myself to a new environment. Change is my chocolate but my parents have a giant problem about changing their routine. The past few months have been hard for me because my parents have started to give up everything for working. They say they are working for money and a good life but a good life is not really how I describe my present status.

Parents have the tendency to love work. Working makes them occupied and it makes them happy because they can make their children happy in terms of what money can buy. But just like child play, it needs limits to avoid hurting others.

The place I want to go to with the family this summer is Palawan. I am a fan of beautiful beaches and everything else related to nature. Palawan is ideal because going there doesn't require too much money. I asked my parents once about having a week off and hopping to Palawan, leaving behind all work and responsibilities aside from being a big happy family. I was turned down with the answer, "You can go with Bon(my guardian) if you want [but were not coming with you]."

I felt like I was fried alive on the spot. It took me a few hours of thinking thoroughly and a few more hours to gather up the courage to ask them beforehand. I needed a lot of courage because a bad answer could have just killed me there. When I received a 'no', I was devastated but I recovered pretty soon. It is extremely sad to say that I expected most of it.

Now its summer and my parents are still not showing any sign of planning a family vacation. Her sister ,which is a mother of my four, amazing cousins, is planning their trip to Manila. She is always asking my mother for some tips on taking the trip. My mother is very glad to help but it makes me think why she wouldn't want to take the whole family out.

My father is another story. Anyone can describe him as a perfect father. He understands, he is smart, he is compassionate, he is everything that you would want your father to be. If I ask him something and he refuses, I start to think for reasons why he refused and I will find it pretty easily. I don't ask him for almost anything. If he says no, its never going to happen.

I still appreciate the efforts of my parents on keeping the family financially healthy but we need more than money, we need parents to guide us in school and generally, life. If we don't get the guidance, they don't get good children. That is what a parenting seminar once told me. Now that I know that, I think I'm applying it to my life.

I have a good camera, a laptop and some other expensive stuff but I don't have one ultimate need of a child, a supportive family. In terms of schooling, I don't get a lot of help. All the time they tell me to study but tasks like studying require inspiration. You just can't tell me to study if I don't have enough reason to do so. I think I deserve the feeling of importance. I think what I say deserve to be heard. If all of these happens, I might just study.

Its a hard world to understand and now, I understand nothing at all.

How to Order the iPad from the Philippines

A few minutes after the release of the giant iPod touch, baptized the iPad, Filipinos logged on to the online Apple Stores to check the availability of this slab of technology in our country. Unfortunately, it isn't available to the Philippine market today. So the following is a tutorial on how to order your own iPad.

1. Look for a US Mailbox. If you have relatives from America, order one iPad using your credit card from Amazon or the online US Apple Store and let your relatives forward the iPad to you, the problem is they will be handling the shipping fee which you can cover by remittance anyway.

If you don't have friends in the US, don't be sad. Getting an iPad is still possible by getting your own US Mailbox. Apply to services like MyUS.com which after signup, will provide you with your own US address which will be in charge for shipping here in the Philippines. Of course, its not for free.

2. Be patient. It will probably take two to three weeks before your product arrives. You can use this method with any product from online stores that sell only to the US.

Note: The Apple iPad will most likely soon be released in the Philippines anyway so you don't really have to worry about not getting an iPad. The question of when is still unknown though.

What are Calories? White Rice are Bad Calories, Sadly

If you have followed the site I suggested in this article, you might have read that they enlisted white rice, a staple of the Filipino table, under the sources of bad calories. I don’t take my diet seriously but could it be that white rice is the cause all of my dilemma?
Let me lay down the facts I have collected over internet sources. Don’t worry about plagiarism, I’ll do in-text references with links.
1. What is a calorie?
A calorie is the amount of energy a 150 pound or 68.03 kilo person burns in a minute while resting (MrHealthy.com) and in every gram of carbohydrates you consume, 4 calories go with it too(Google Dictionary). So if you are 68.03 kilos and you eat 200 grams of carbohydrates, you need 800 minutes of rest to burn all that you consumed. Exercise speeds up burning which is a lifeline for the white rice lover, I think.
2. What are the nutritional values of white rice?
According to About.com, the nutritional value of rice is graded B. It has no sugar, no sodium, no cholesterol which is good. The problem is that it contains mostly carbohydrates and only about 0.03% protein. You get 52.3 grams of carbohydrates per cup of rice, only 0.6 gram of that is of dietary fibers which is sad. So you have 212.8 minutes to burn all the calories you just ate.
3. Why did I say white rice have bad calories?
Because it contains too much carbohydrates and not much dietary fibers, I suppose. An article said people should prefer brown rice which is as far as I know, richer in fibers. I don’t know where to grow or get brown rice here in the Philippines. How about food coloring? Does it work, anyone?

As you can see, my diet which is supposed to be something to giggle about took over me. Another second I was eating a carbohydrate enriched meringue and now I’m writing an article against white rice while trying to resist the temptation of eating ‘riced’ lunch. I have eaten bread already and this is not anorexia.

So so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, achoo! Its just today I realized the real lyrics were so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye. It sounded better when the last word was achoo. It was justifiable because I sneeze a lot during rainy nights. :-)…  (drooling smiley) Gooodbye!!!

Eraserheads Box Set!

Last year, around September, news broke out of the formulation of a box set consisted of all the albums of Eraserheads. A few weeks after it was confirmed and the box set was targeted to sell out March 2010. Now its April and finally, I made myself understand I have to wait some more for the set.

First of all, I am a 16 year old giant fan of the Eraserheads. Last year, the Eheads were just another old band I didn't care about until I got hold of a copy of their music. It was nighttime and it felt like I have memorized all the songs on my computer. I listened to Toyang, got interested and listened to Fruitcake, after sometime, I was in a live concert, happily dying in front of the Eheads. I was in love with their music because anyone can easily imagine theme selves in it. Every song can easily be about you and it feels good.

I am religiously checking NU107's website which is supposed to be the first one to blog about the release of the blog set. There are still no photos or updated info about the box set and the latest is the fan photo contest, where your photo with the Eheads can be included in the box set, which ended March 5, 2010.

So for now, I am totally clueless of what is happening in the creation of the phenomenal box set which was supposed to be release last week of March. Waiting is not one my favorite things to do and waiting for a treasure box of your idols is purgatory. Only a backstage pass to The Fame Monster can make me feel happier now that I remembered all about the box set I heard about last September.

Fancy Food Forecast

It is very ironic that in the previous article, I have stated my goals of living a good life and implementing a diet and a few days after, I will be blogging about my mortal enemy, food.

For the past few days, I have been bonded to Coffee Break at Nelly's Garden here in Iloilo, thanks to my good friend which is an addict of the unproductive sitting down. When she invites me to sit with her at the cafe, she means serious sitting, the likes of 3 or more hours of resting on a chair.

Plenty of chairs to
fill up!

I am not the laid back type of person. Moving is a need for me which stirs up another irony of why I'm a few sizes above prime. Back to the story, so we would sit there for like forever. I get bored a lot thats why I end up eating some 'panini', 'sans rival', 'frappe' etc.

They all taste good but why do all their names sound French? Its like gay language in wrestling. Why can't they be called 'tinapay na may palaman' or 'palaman sa gitna ng tinapay', and 'kalabang araw', even 'meringueng naligo sa whip cream at mani'. By that, product comprehension will be easier and people can easily expect what they are getting.

Why don't I build a cafe with the menu I just produced above? Reason: It would be stupid because one of the few reasons why these cafes exist is their ability to elaborate a person's ability in fancy food talk. Who doesn't want a friend who can translate 'basil salmone terrine' or 'pasta jeux tu amor' into human language?

While I was sitting down at Coffee Break, I had a vision. The cafes of today are cousins of the typical Filipino 'tindahan' where the youth spends most of their waking times doing nothing. Cafes are for young professionals that love to get attention but I couldn't deny the fact that there are some other people who consider cafes as a haven for reading or reviewing or doing other mental work. I know its a 'chillax', laid back place and I am a fan of caffeine, but why stay longer than 3 hours? Is economy the answer? I would understand if the 'tambay' that comes with purchase is actually a fraction of the price. I guess so because I can't tell you Coffee Break is cheap.

BTW: I know cafe is spelled with the other e with the curved line on top but your not the one typing and at the moment, I am not in the mood to look for French letters. And if by any chance you drop by Coffee Break, grab a Sans Rival bar and any cold drink with lots of caffeine. You will thank me. :-)

Dieting Filipino

I have cycles with weight. I get really heavy during vacations and a tiny bit slimmer during school days. Its summer so I'm expecting to gain weight but because this is for good change, I will try my best to trim down. One of the reasons I will be doing this is my hobby. I do photography and scary dancing. Both require a lot of moving around and carrying extra pounds for fats is not an advantage.

A gorgeous scoop of
Spanish Chocolate gelato

I will be chronicling that events that will make me a better person. It would be not for boasting my evolution but a hopeful inspiration for those who attempt dieting and such.
